Here at Pritchards, we’ve teamed up with Hereford-based Personal Trainer and Natural Bodybuilder, Jonty Williams. Within his blog posts, Jonty will share several decades worth of experience, including knowledge that he gained from his time as a Royal Air Force Physical Instructor. We’re delighted to be able to partner with Jonty and we hope you enjoy the health and well being tips he will provide.

Hi I’m Jonty Williams, I’m 53 years old and I served for 10 years in the Royal Air Force as a Physical Training Instructor. I now run my own coaching business, where I assist a wide range of clients to improve their health and fitness. I currently compete as a Natural Body Builder, having recently won my age group at The Mr Universe competition in Italy. I’m now in hard training to face a huge personal challenge at the pinnacle of Bodybuilding, The Mr Olympia in Las Vegas in November 2023.

Let’s look at Step 1:

This might seem an obvious instruction, move more. When we sit still too much (which is easily done in our current world) we lose energy, make poor decisions, and get out of shape. Stagnant water always gets sick. Increasing your movement will generate energy for your body and change your current position.

Walk more, some simple ways to achieve this are to park further away in the car park at work, go for a stroll at lunch time or play in the park with your children or grandchildren. I’m a gym-based fella but I still prefer the great outdoors as opposed to a treadmill inside.

An Avalanche doesn’t usually start with a large movement, so making this initial small step can suddenly roll into bigger changes later in your life. Many people think it’s not possible to make changes, yet it’s always possible if we’re above ground. Your muscles simply do not recognise your age, I have 3 clients, 84, 87 and 91 that simply prove it’s never too late.

So, step 1 to creating a new you, is to move more, walking would be my go to, as its weight bearing and as humans we’re built to do it. Walking upright involves the heart and lungs, using muscles without overloading your body and requires no new equipment. You’ll use up calories and increase your energy from the process.

So go move more!

I look forward to providing more simple steps to an improved you, in this series. Feel free to contact me if you’d like to work with me on your specific goals.
