Established in 1836, Pritchard’s are one of a handful of businesses that can count over 170 years of continuous trading behind them. The great-great grandfather of Edward Pritchard, the present owner, first opened the doors of his Broad Street shop, later moving to High Town where he, together with his sons, built an enviable reputation as the leading county tailors.
Times changed and Edward’s father moved to new premises in King Street in the 1960’s where the shop is situated today. Since then, the Pritchard's staff have progressed the business still further while retaining the family values of quality and service through introducing new labels and expanding the selling area across three floors.
The shop recently featured in Architects’ Journal and has won numerous awards for store design and window display competitions.
With a store front that wouldn’t look amiss in Sloane Street, the ground floor is a modern mix of ceramic tiles and antique parquet floor, with the old central fireplace reborn as a till and coffee area. Here you will find collections from Armani Collezioni, Boss Black, Gant, John Smedley, Lacoste, Paul Smith, Polo Ralph Lauren amongst others as well as shoes from Paul Smith, Paraboot and Hudson.

The recently refitted first floor is given to tailoring: suits, jackets, trousers and outerwear by Armani Collezioni, Bäumler, Boss and Paul Smith as well as Pritchard's own label tailoring and Made to Measure service. Up again on the second floor is the new dress wear department. The dinner suits, to buy or hire, can also be made to measure and this applies to wedding outfits and morning wear.
Each and every Pritchard's customer is regularly kept up-to-date with new developments and seasonal offerings through the careful use of mail and email campaigns. Advertising is maintained locally and nationally with mentions in GQ, Arena and FHM among others.
With a staff of five, all of whom bring something different to the store, plus a part-time tailor, the shop attracts new customers at the rate of around 25% per year.
